Climbing Mt. Fuji : Things to prepare

We all know that Mt Fuji is the iconic mountain in Japan, due to its picture perfect shape, that's why many tourist flock the mountain. That's why I would like to share the preparation we did on climbing Mt Fuji. We planned to climb tomorrow August 10, 2017

Things we planned

Route: There’s more than one.
Having 2 beginners on our team we decided to ascend the Yoshida trail, being the most famous trail due to its accessibility the Fuji-Subaru Line 5th station.
and for being the trail with most number of Inns to rest if you get tired during your journey.

Date and Time: Avoid weekends.
We scheduled our trip on a Thursday, and we planned to bullet hike the trail during the night at 8pm so that we can witness the sunrise on top of the mountain by 4:50am on a Friday, and having that Friday as Mountain day to the Japanese it is the perfect time we decided to schedule our trip anticipating that the crowed on top is not that crowded.

Gears: Must have
We planned to ascend on a night time so head lamps are a must for our team, also we bought some Light Stick and bag lamps for our bags for us to easily be visible to each other.

For shoes due to the terrain hiking boots is better than regular hiking shoes as volcanic rocks or sands might get inside your shoes.

even though the official climbing season for Fuji falls on summer, temperature at the summit still may fall below freezing, so 3 layering system for clothes are implemented for our hike.

Food: Light but heavy on carbs
We prepare foods with high carbs to sustain our trip, also we packed light as it will be easier to carry light food for our trip, as we believed that we should only take what are necessary. so some nuts and jerky are recommended.

Transportation: Reserve your Sits
We decided to use the highway bus transport at shinjuku station that goes directly to 5th station, we reserved a sit at 2,700yen each for one way, you can also reserve round trip bus fare and pay via pay pal or credit card to avoid any problem.

I will be posting our full experience climbing Mt Fuji within a month to share my personal encounter with the iconic mountain.
